One
of the best attributes of the North Georgia mountains is the diversity
of scenes that present the photographer with ample subject material.
Whether we seek pastoral beauty, geologic oddities, or
cascading rivulets, every mile brings new opportunities for creative
experimentation.
Modern Helen was conceived in the 1960's as a way of improving
business in the area. Since that time, Helen has remained a center for shopping, dining,
relaxing, hiking and family-style entertainment. You can spend
hour after hour in it's quaint and unique shops. Or you can enjoy
a Bavarian style feast of Bratwurst and sauerkraut. A horse-drawn
carriage rides through town could top off a great meal. And best
of all, it's less than a two hour ride from Atlanta!
Helen can be very busy at certain times of the year,
particularly during Oktoberfest. Wouldn't it be nice to escape to
your private, 24 acre mountain retreat for a relaxing sunset dip in the
hot tub? As you watch the stars come out, you'll really appreciate
the solitude of the mountains!

In late summer, 2005, Helen suffered serious damage
from storms spawned by the deadly hurricane Katrina. Many buildings
sustained serious damage, and thousands of trees were lost. Although the
buildings will be replaced and repaired in short order, it will be some
time before nature can replace the forests that were lost. The damage is
still apparent in June 2006, but life in the area has returned to
normal!
Enjoy the photos of Helen Georgia. We'll be
adding more pictures as time allows!
