The
Smith Creek Recreation Area in the Chattahoochee National Forest is one
of the most popular destinations in North Georgia. Here you can
picnic beside the cool rushing waters of Smith Creek, hike an overland
trail to other area destinations, or enjoy an easy walk on the
half-mile, paved trail to Anna Ruby Falls.
The visitor's center will provide you with information
about the National Forest, and a small gift shop contains mementoes and
books relevant to the area.
The walk itself to the falls is a gentle climb besides
the rushing waters of the creek. The valley is cool and fresh, and there
are plenty of places to rest along the way. Plan about an hour and and
half for the round trip, longer if you wish to linger by the falls!
Also, there is a special nature trail for
sight-impaired sponsored by the Lion's Club. If
you must limit yourself to one or two sight-seeing trips while in the
Helen / Cleveland Unicoi area, be sure that Anna Ruby Falls is one of your top
choices!
